“LOFI VALENTINES” – EP ANIMATION

I designed, drew, and animated this looped illustration for Ryan Long, a Chattanooga musician and the frontman of Opposite Box, a band with whom I’ve worked extensively. Ryan recorded a short EP of LoFi beats with talk box accompaniment as a Valentine’s Day gift for his girlfriend. He called the work “LoFi Valentines” and hired me to create a looped animation of a cat on a synthesizer, and to design it within the parameters of the LoFi genre’s visual aesthetic. The inclusion of the microphone, the winding clear talk box tube, and the beating digital heart were all my idea. “LoFi Valentines” was a return to hand drawn, frame-by-frame animation for me, and I enjoyed every second I spent working on it.
